Shuangqing Villa is located in the southeastern part, named after two clear springs within its grounds. The characters “双清” (Shuangqing) were inscribed by Emperor Qianlong. At the center of the courtyard stands a hexagonal red pavilion, beside which lies a pond. In March 1949, when the CPC Central Committee organs moved into Xiangshan, Chairman Mao Zedong resided at Shuangqing Villa and directed the famous battle of crossing the Yangtze River of the Liberation War from here. The villa now features two exhibition halls, upper and lower: the upper hall hosts the “Chairman Mao Zedong at Shuangqing” exhibition, while the lower hall serves as the Chairman Mao Zedong Former Residence display room.
