Zhao Temple, fully named Zongjing Dazhao Temple, was constructed in the 45th year of the Qianlong era (1780). It was specially built as a temporary imperial palace for the 6th Panchen Erdeni from Tibet to Beijing, modeled after the Tashilhunpo Monastery in Shigatse, Tibet. The temple was burned down by the Anglo-French Allied Forces in 1860 and again by the Eight-Nation Alliance forces in 1900.
